Guide to Bondage – Beginners Kink

Beginners Kink

I decided to write this post after a few people have asked me where they would begin on their journey into bondage. I think a few of them have felt intimidated when looking online at bondage products and expressed that it put them off trying it all together.

I think this is such a shame, it doesn’t need to be scary or intimidating, i love bondage, its exciting, fun and very kinky and there are so many great products on the market that are perfect for beginners.

Getting Back To The Basics – What is Bondage?

BDSM

Bondage is the act of consensually restraining someone for sexual pleasure, using items like, restraints, tape or rope. It’s also one of the branches in BDSM. My chart above shows where bondage fits into the BDSM practice.

Bondage Materials

Most common bondage products are made from leather or velour; however you can also buy metal restraints or use bondage rope or tape. I wouldn’t recommend that a beginner try metal restraints, until they feel completely comfortable with other methods of bondage.

Best Place To Start

if you are a new kink, and looking for a gentle introduction to bondage, i would start out with some wrist bondage. Given that wrist bondage items come in a list of different styles and materials, i recommend that beginners start off with some simple wrist cuffs. Wrist cuffs are all different and the choice is completely yours as to which ones you pick.

Once you feel comfortable using wrist cuffs, you could try using some rope or tape (a little more restrictive) A personal favourite of mine.

Moving On – What’s Next

Once you feel completely comfortable with having your wrists bound/tied, the next step would be to try other bondage items. I have listed some of them below with a description. (all of these positions can be achieved using different materials, rope, tape etc.

Under Bed Restraints

This bondage restraint is great for spread eagle. Restraining both your wrists and ankles.

This is a great restraint if you want easy access to your juicy zones, or to stop your partners wandering hands. More restrictive than wrist cuffs but a whole lot more kinkier.

The Hog Tie

Used to hold both wrists and ankles behind the persons back. Both me and my husband love this as its great for getting/giving a spanking.

I think this feels a lot more restrictive, even more so than under the bed restraints, normally we use bondage rope for this.

Door Restraints

Similar to under the bed restraints, door restraints can hold your wrists and ankles. Great if you would like to be standing rather than laying down.

Again, this can be achieved with rope or tape but the door restraints usually have better attachments.

Door Swing

Very similar to the door restraint only, you can be sat in it with your legs held up, positioning you perfectly for some oral delights.

Safety Safety Safety

If you are new to bondage i can’t express enough how important it is to follow some safety guidelines. Always make sure both parties consent, make sure you have a safe word or signal pre-set beforehand. This should be a word that you would not normally use during sex, and the session should be ended immediately when the word or signal is used.

I also recommend that when using bondage rope you should have scissors handy for a quick release if needed.

Where To Buy

I recommend the following companies for bondage gear, I have used them myself and find their products to be of good quality.

Honour – Great range of Fetish gear as well as bondage restraints and products.

Bijoux Indiscrets – 100% vegan free products – amazing quality products.

LoveHoney – Great range of bondage products – wide variety from beginners to the more advanced.

Bondara – Great range, good value for money and great quality too.

Now you know what bondage is, what type of bondage gear is good for beginners, safety information and where to buy your products.

All that’s left to do is go buy some gear and get kinky.
